MPD Captain Detective Spradlin passes
"Yet not to thine eternal
resting-place shalt thou retire
alone, nor couldst thou wish
couch more magnificent. Thou
shalt lie down with patriarchs of
the infant world--with kings, the
powerful of the earth--the wise,
the good, fair forms, and hoary
seers of ages past, all in one
mighty sepulchre.
" {THANATOPSIS
William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878)}
A perfect friend
Today, July 12, 2008, Madisonville
lost a perfect friend. This friend
gave up a good job with the state
and good pay to be a police officer
several years ago. This friend has
helped and listened to many
people, with concern. This friend
has protected this community and
asked for nothing. This friend is
Captain Detective Steven
Spradlin. To friends, which I was
blessed to be one of, he is Goose.
Goose you will be missed every
waking minute, everyday.
So tonight, say a prayer for the
Spradlin family.
From all of us, we love you.

The Goose is Gone
From Wes Hall
Steve Spradlin's nickname was
Goose as many know.
No one has shared with me how
that came to be. He and
I played a game regularly in that
he would come up with
a word or phrase and I would
figure out a way to use it in a
news story, like "Wild Goose
Chase" or "Shennanigans".
We chose this photo from a
number we had on file because it
depicted Steve's personality.
Always smiling. Always with a
story to tell. Always the
gentleman. His family was the
delight of his life, and he theirs.
We will miss you.
